Aitor Pinho Garcia

When it comes to most sports with goals, the focus always drifts to the person scoring a winning goal, and very little emphasis goes on to the person who makes the game winning save! But sometimes, the goalkeeper is far more important than any single shooter, which is why we are so excited to have one of the greatest Spanish keepers ever coming to our home in a few weeks’ time!

While many of us may not have heard of him, Aitor Pinho Garcia is a growing legend in the game – not only having a full trophy cabinet from his playing days, but also many accolades for his coaching.

Starting out playing for Club Natació Atlètic in Barcelona for their age group teams, Aitor won several inter-club events and titles, and in 2007 was awarded the prize for top goalkeeper in Spain! When he moved on to the senior side of the club, his winning ways did not stop – he won the Spanish League in 2008 and 2009, a Spanish cup and even the equivalent of the Community Shield – the Supercopa de España.

In 2009, he moved to Club Natació Montjuic, where he continued his winning ways in the Spanish leagues.

In 2011, his coaching career jumped to new heights, when his U13 side won a silver medal at the Spanish Nationals. This he then repeated in 2012, before moving on to U14 where he took home a gold and silver medal in the TEWAM (European U14 cup) in the two he competed at, followed by a bronze and a gold in the U14 Spanish Nationals! Together with this, he also managed to win the Copa Fanaticos at senior level with the club side he coached, while also taking third place in the senior Cataluña league that year! Ending off his time in Spain for a few years, Aitor then managed to crown his time as a coach in the Cataluña league by winning the league! It was then, at the end of 2015 that Aitor made the move to Australia, first taking up a position at the Warriors Water Polo Club, and then moving on to coach the Breakers in the Australian National League.
