Water polo is one of the most exciting school sports and although it’s played equally by boys and girls, the risk of serious injury is relatively small and the physical workout is equal to anything else youngsters may tackle.

At the same time it is a sport that doesn’t enjoy the high-profile sponsorships of cricket and rugby for example, with selection, training and tours of provincial and national teams largely for parents’ own cost.

Western Province is arguably South Africa’s most successful schools’ water polo body. The Province has swum away Champion Province at the annual interprovincial tournament since inception of the Award.

Team Western Province is a desirable property for any sponsor to be associated with.

At present there are 56 schools affiliated to WPSWP and we see this growing as the popularity of the sport grows. This brings many opportunities for corporates and other interested individuals to associate with water polo.

In 2017 it is our intention to travel to the IPT with one of the largest squads ever – C teams at U13, U14 and U19 levels. Provisioning, transport and accommodation of a squad of almost 380 people is a large and expensive undertaking. We are actively seeking out sponsors who may be able to provide assistance with the 1001 items that need to be taken care of.

In addition there are several competitions that require sponsorship, any of these could be an attractive property for the right corporate.
