Pre-registration for trials is only compulsory for U13 boys, girls and new players to WP and must be completed by 2 September 2019. This is an online process and can be accessed by clicking here or navigating to the following address in your web browser: https://forms.gle/aPrFZMbFdiWuPBMs7

All players to please bring these documents to trials:

  •   Certified copy of the player’s ID/passport/birth certificate
  •   Completed capitation form (see below)

The fee for trials is included in the R200 charged for pre-season squad sessions. These fees go towards the costs of pool hire and trial operating costs, and must be paid via EFT. If a player has not paid for and attended squad sessions, a fee of R150 to participate in trials must be paid – either by EFT before 2 September or in cash on the day.

Arrive timeously for trials, preferably at least half-an-hour before the scheduled time. There is some administration work that must be completed before the trials start. Report to the age group convenor and make sure your registration information is correct.

Team announcements are usually, but may not be, made at the conclusion of the trials. This is up to the discretion of the age-group selection panel. In some instances, the finalisation of the A & B teams for U14s and U15s will only be made one week later at the conclusion of their respective Rondebosch and Melliar tournaments.

The kit is the same as last year and must be ordered and paid for at the conclusion of team announcements at trials. There will be a pop-up shop with kit samples available for sizing purposes. Credit card/EFT/Snapscan payment facilities will be available.

The Capping Ceremony will take place at Rondebosch Boys’ High School on Tuesday 15 October from 18h00. More details will be made available closer to the event.

Logistics for the IPT are enormous. This year Team WP will comprise around 300 players, coaches, managers and referees. Transporting them to Johannesburg, accommodating and feeding them, and then returning them safely home requires a plan of military precision – and this is all undertaken by a dedicated team of volunteers.

The teams will depart Cape Town International Airport on Saturday 7 December and leave Johannesburg on the afternoon/early evening of Wednesday 11 December. More details on specific arrangements will be made available closer to the time.

All players must travel to Johannesburg with their team. Players not wanting to make use of the flight on the return journey to Cape Town can make alternative arrangements. The coach and manager must be made aware of this change timeously beforehand. Parents have until 14th October to cancel the return flight or make alternative arrangements, information relating to the process to do this will be communicated in the selection letter.

IPT costs are not finalised at this stage but will likely be in the region of R10 000 per player. We understand this is a significant increase over 2018 but we have been at great pains to reduce costs at every turn. Unfortunately, hotel accommodation and flights at that time of the year are the main expense. The tour fee is payable in two tranches, 50% by 15 October and the remaining 50% by 15 November 2018.

Schools’ water polo is thriving in Western Province, but it doesn’t just happen. Our sport relies on many volunteers putting in a lot of work behind the scenes. If you are able to lend a hand in a certain area, please let us know.
