And another weekend has come and gone, but for some of our schools it was a good one with many tough games! To top off the schools’ events, we also saw the Old Eds tournament in Jo’burg, which this year also involved a universities’ event.
At Co-Eds, Westerford and Parklands raced some of the toughest Co-Ed schools in the country, but sadly could not keep up with all of them. At the end of the event, both the boys and girls from Parklands unfortunately ended in last place in their respective pools, while the Westerford teams did quite well – the boys ending in 7th and the girls in 5th. Well done to the teams!
As for Old Eds, it was a very tough weekend for everyone – but WP teams managed to do us proud!
In the men’s section, Maties lost to the OJ Eagles in the final – 7-2. The ladies saw UCt lose out to a team made of players from nearly all over, going down 7-3 in the final.
For the universities, Maties and UCT dominated in both sections. For the ladies, UCT managed to take the crown in a tight game against Maties that ended 7-6, while for the men, Maties took down UCT to win 5-4 in another tight game.
Looking to the weekend which is fast approaching, we see our U13 teams preparing for the SACS U13 event – taking place from Thursday to Saturday at SACS. Good luck to all the WP schools, and to the players who will be having their trials on Sunday at Reddam from 12h00-14h00. Please remember that players will be invited from the SACS U13 tournament. For players who do not play at this event, they are welcome to attend trials as long as they have attended AT LEAST ONE squad session in the build up to trials.
This weekend also see the first round of fixtures for the Boys’ A league – with Paul Roos playing Bishops at Paul Roos, Rondebosch playing SACS at RBHS and Wynberg playing Reddam/Westerford at Wynberg. Keep an eye on their respective pages for the detailed fixtures as they become available!
In the B league, we see a number of schools face off in the Fish Hoek tournament – with fast paced games and a lot of action to keep you entertained, so don’t miss out on the fun on Saturday!
