As we continue to shed some light on the four coaches who will be running our clinic next month, here is a little bit more about Bronwen Knox – the legend of Australian Women’s Water Polo!
When it comes to women’s water polo in Australia, one name stands out above the rest: Bronwen Knox. As the most capped player in the Ausie Stingers team, she has been around the pool for some time now, and her records and trophy cabinet attest to that!
Since 2005, Bronwen has played at a senior international level, and has been to every big tournament possible! She has been to six World Championships, and has come home with two silver medals! Three world cups gave her two gold medals and a silver, and to top all of this off she is also a triple Olympian, having won two bronze medals in 2008 and 2012. And as if just taking a medal in 2008 wasn’t enough, she also made the Olympic All Star team in Beijing! In 2013 Bronwen took up the role as captain of the Stingers, a role she held for four seasons, ending in 2016.
As far as club water polo goes, Bronwen has been all over the world, having played college polo in the USA, and two professional contacts in Europe! Today, Bronwen is playing Queensland Breakers in the Australian National League.
As far as coaching goes, Bronwen is the assistant coach for the U18s and U20s at the Sydney Youth Festival as well as being a development officer for the Queensland Water Polo board.
Away from the pool, Bronwen is also at the top of her game – she has a Bachelors degree in Biomedical Science, a graduate diploma in Public Health and is currently working towards her Bachelor of Laws! And as if that wasn’t enough, she was a finalist in the Leadership Legend awards held by Women’s Health, as well as a finalist for the Australian of the Year Award in 2017!
