Logan Mackie has been appointed to the newly-created position of Manager: Western Province Schools’ Water Polo effective 3 January 2017.

Logan brings 10 years’ of sports experience to the position responsible for developing water polo within Western Province’s footprint. He is a graduate of UCT and has just completed his Post Graduate Certificate in Education.

His duties will include identifying disadvantaged communities that have the facilities to play water polo and encouraging them to take up the sport, growing the game in schools that already have pools, facilitating training programmes for coaches, players and match officials, and taking a leadership role in the staging of tournaments hosted by WPSWP.

‘Western Province has a proud history of leadership in schools’ water polo: our player high-performance programme is a perfect example. The sport is growing significantly and we’ve seen a number of new schools enter our B League competition. We feel it’s the time to professionalise the development and management of our goals, and the appointment of a suitable person with the skills and energy to do this is an important step,’ says WPSWP chairman Gary Fisher.
